Elopements | Pros & Cons

Why an elopement?

This question gets more popular every year on Google, and especially today when big gatherings are a no-no literally in every corner of the world. While some might think of an elopement as a cheesy quick ceremony in a Las Vegas chapel depicted in so many movies, but today the meaning of the elopement is much deeper than that. Couples choose elopement over a traditional big, industry-like wedding when they look for a non-traditional way of bringing "just two best friends in love" to another level of their relationships. If you feel overwhelmed with the idea of a traditional wedding with 200+ guests that are your parents' friends primarily - definitely consider eloping instead. If you are not a big fan of spending tens of thousands of dollars on a one-day party, elopement is your choice. If you simply are too free and wild in heart to do the same thing your friends did when they got married, then elope and make it a rad lifetime experience!

Advantages of eloping:

  •  Your way of committing to each other

  •  Location of your dreams

  • Only your partner and you (+ closest family & friends)

  • You can plan it the way you want it

  • Elopements are more environment-friendly

  • 1/3 or less of a traditional wedding budget

  • It can be as adventurous as you are

Where to elope?

Since Aesthetic Sabotage is based in New York, I will use New York City as my prime example, but the location can and should be of your dreams. Be it your parents' house, a farm in upstate NY, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, or Cannon Beach in Oregon, the where is something you have to figure out for yourselves. I can help to narrow down the list of locations for your elopement based on your preferences. Let’s start chatting. Eloping in New York is a fantastic opportunity to get lost in a city full of people, absorb the city's unique energy, have a movie-like experience, and get married in your dream destination.

New York City elopement locations:

A timeline:

Let's look at a summertime itinerary of a three-hour elopement in NYC.

  • 6:30 am - sunrise, first location

  • 7:30 am - second location

  • 8:00 am - coffee break/breakfast

  • 9:00 am - third location/final destination

As for the cons of elopements, I can’t think of any. If you don’t like the idea of having a wedding ceremony with no or very few guests, then maybe eloping is simply not for you. Consider a micro wedding - a celebration that sits between a traditional big wedding and an intimate elopement.

Elopements are for couples with a big dream to get married in a unique location without any burdens of a huge celebration.
